Feathered pillows, plush teddies, nail polish, princess movies; don’t forget the popcorn, pizza, soda and candy. All the makings of a fun filled slumber party. 🙂 So bring on the fun! Slumber parties are a delightful rite of passage for young girls, and a little creativity in the cake department can make the party a little extra-special. N’est-ce pas? 🙂

Simple elegance!

Simple elegance. This is just a sample of what The Columbus Cake Company can make for your special day. Fresh flowers are elegant, and with many varieties to choose from, couples are sure to find the best design and style of flowers to complement their wedding festivities.

The jumps,  spins and  routines that all piece together. Well,…at least we can imagine this pretty little skater doing  just that..;) We had a lot of fun makings this cake. Yes, we could have simply used a toy Barbie doll and dressed her up as a skater, but where’s the fun in that? We loved the challenge. Notice the gem detail on the dress. Simple elegance..:)

The colours pink and brown are always in style. There is something about girls and pink….;) Just can’t get enough of it. Girly prams, lace ribbons, flowers and more.”Thank heavens for little girls.” We had to tie them all together for this baby shower cake. What a thrill it was to design and make this cake.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful dessert than a Black Forest Cake. Christmas for me  is not complete without either a  Black Forest Cake, or a BĂ»che de NoĂ«l. This year for our Christmas celebration I made my favourite – Black Forest Cake.

When one of those big slabs from Costco just won’t do, you must…..I INSIST….. TRY OURS…:)    Layers of chocolate cake filled with chocolate mousse,  whipped cream and married with Kirsch soaked Morello cherries and then, covered with even more whipped cream, chocolate cream,   chocolate  lattice  and maraschino cherries.

This isn’t just a piece of cake. It’s a celebration of Germany’s Black Forest region, famous for Morello cherries and kirsch, (a cherry brandy). For some recipes, kirsch is optional, but a true German-style Black Forest Cake will contain kirsch, whether it’s whipped into the cream, soaked into the cherries or brushed onto the cake layers. Or all three, as in this case.:) Because a lot of the cherry flavor comes from the kirsch, the boozier, the better. This cake is best served the day it is made. Ahh, a sight for the eyes….ENJOY!……:)

This is our favorite time of year. Christmas for me is always associated with aroma. When I look back at childhood Christmases, it’s the smells I remember. In the days leading up to Christmas, it was the wonderful rich, spicy smells of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger wafting from the kitchen, promising delights to come. And then, of course, about a week before Christmas, the fresh crisp outdoor smell of  pine from the Christmas tree; on Christmas morning, by the tangy citrus aroma from the orange sweet rolls my mum would have baking.

As 2011 comes to a close, The Columbus Cake Company wants to wish you and your family all the best for the season and for the coming New Year. We also want to thank everyone for their continued support and for all the lovely emails that  are, and will continue to be, a great source of motivation and inspiration.   Tatiana Porter, The Columbus Cake Company

Halloween fun!

At the  Columbus Cake Company we make a “mean” carrot cake. Literally! That silly “wabbit”  has eaten his last carrot, lol! Finally, the carrots  get their revenge…….:)

Bouncing baby animals.

Aren’t they just the cutest baby animals you have ever seen? Too cute and cuddly. Just makes you wanna  eat ’em, right? Well you can! Lol! They are all edible. This is the latest 3D cake we made for a recent baby shower.

3D 1969 Mustang Boss car

We had so much fun with this one. It was quite a challenge, seeing as it was our first attempt at a 3D car. I think we all did a pretty good job. Everything is edible except for the wheels. As I admire our work the theme song to “Transformers” (the movie) comes to mind. lol!

This cake features handmade edible roses.  We air brushed them with  black edible color to give them a bit more definition.
